Asphalt Millings
Asphalt Millings are a great alternative to hotmix asphalt if your budget is limited. Millings is definitely a step above gravel or stone and provides a great surface cover and preventative for messy mud or dusty dirt that soils your car, SUV or truck. To appreciate the product of millings, you will want to lower your expectation for a smooth surface and be satisfied with a more textured look and be content that fulfills your purpose of covering your driveway for a lower cost.
Chip & Tar (Chipseal)
Chip & tar is often referred to in many different nomenclatures, including tar and chip, chipseal, chip seal, tarseal, tar seal, tar and chip, and tar and gravel. This is a great alternative for those who are on a budget and are seeking a different look, often lighter in color. The surface is not as smooth as hot asphalt, but is definitely a step up from gravel or stone.
Sealcoat
A protective replenishment process using a quality emulsified sealer is important to inhibiting potential deterioration and potholes forming from chemicals and water that can penetrate the surface, as well as fading from the UV sun rays. This sealer will give a richer look and extend the lifetime of your asphalt surface and will be money well invested. Depending on time of year and other factors, this should typically be done within a few months of asphalt paving.
Concrete
Concrete is an alternative to asphalt. While concrete is typically more expensive, it has its own redeeming qualities. Concrete is a popular option for driveways, sidewalks, patios, home basketball courts, gated entrances, garage floors, etc.
